Warmcel High Performance Insulation

The Warmcel range of high performance insulation products offers a total solution for the provision of effective insulation in housing, commercial premises and public buildings.

Installed in over one million homes in the UK alone, Warmcel has established its credentials with national housebuilders, architects, local authorities and housing associations over the last 20 years.

Combining the highest levels of thermal performance with enviable environmental credentials, Warmcel delivers the capability to downsize space heating requirements, maximise heat retention and provide a healthy living environment.

Thermal Performance
With an impressive thermal conductivity value (k) of only 0.036 W/mK, Warmcel’s ‘in use’ performance is further enhanced by its ability to create a high level of air-tightness to prevent thermal convection currents.

The proven methods of application ensure the insulation provides a complete seal to minimise heat loss, eliminating gaps, cracks or other cold bridges.

Environmental
[see also paper recycling]
Warmcel is manufactured from 100% recycled waste newspaper and has extremely low embodied energy, requiring far less energy to produce than any other mainstream insulation material.

It does not contain any added formaldehyde and is free from CFCs, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or other toxic substances. And by reducing heating demand, Warmcel also plays a major part in reducing household CO2 emissions.

When, eventually, Warmcel insulation is removed from a building, it can be recycled again or disposed of safely, without creating toxic waste or biodegradability problems.

Fire Performance
Warmcel is extremely resistant to fire. Its remarkable performance is achieved through the addition of simple inorganic salts, enabling it to comfortably meet the fire protection standards required for timber-frame construction and conventional lofts.

Durability
Warmcel is formulated to protect it against any potential hazards that may be encountered in use. It is resistant to biological and fungal attack, treated against insects and is unattractive to vermin.

Warmcel is also harmless to other common building components such as copper pipes, electric cabling and metal nail-plate fasteners.

The Warmcel range includes the following products:

Warmcel 500 – wall, floor and roof insulation
Warmcel 300 – loft insulation
Warmcel 100 – DIY loft insulation
Warmcel RF – retro-fit loft insulation

Warmcel 500
Developed for EVT Technology applications, Warmcel 500 combines high levels of insulation with excellent breathability. Used for EVT walls, roofs and floors; timber frame walls and warm roofs, Warmcel 500 can be either TurboFill installed or damp spray installed.

Warmcel 300
Specified for new build lofts, floors or other open horizontal surfaces. Warmcel 300 is dry-blown pneumatically into position to provide a complete fill between and over joists, leaving no air gaps through which warm air can escape.

Warmcel 100
Developed for the DIY loft insulation market, Warmcel 100 is manually installed to achieve the same level of insulation as Warmcel 300.

For more information and distributor contact details, visit the Warmcel 100 DIY section.

Warmcel RF
Designed for retrofit installation into older properties, Warmcel RF, like Warmcel 300, is dry-blown pneumatically into position by specialist installers. It can be used to insulate lofts that have no insulation or to ‘top up’ inadequately insulated lofts, in which case it is installed over the existing insulation material.

Soundcel Acoustic Insulation

Soundcel acoustic insulation is a highly effective sound insulation for new build applications. Developed for installation into timber frame structures (floors and walls), Soundcel offers a simple and cost-effective solution to airborne sounds from adjacent rooms or properties.

One of the main applications for Soundcel is in intermediate floors in residential or commercial buildings, for example, separating apartments or offices, with internal and party walls also being principal users of the material.

Complementing the well-proven and successful Warmcel range of high performance thermal insulation products, Soundcel is also manufactured from 100% recycled waste newspaper, which endows it with excellent environmental credentials. Soundcel’s acoustic performance is derived from this same raw material base, where the fibre length has been re-engineered for optimised sound absorption.

Soundcel’s acoustic performance has been independently tested and verified at Herriot-Watt University and Sound Research Laboratories Limited and it has undergone extensive field trials to ensure the product’s ‘in use’ performance is consistent with its design criteria.

Like Warmcel products, it is free from CFCs, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or other toxic substances and produces virtually no formaldehyde emissions. Formidable protection against fire is achieved through the addition of simple inorganic salts, as is the product’s resistance to biological and fungal attack and infestation by insects or vermin.

On-site installation is undertaken by registered, specialist Soundcel installers using Excel’s innovative TurboFill dry injection system.

Installation Techniques
For all insulation products other than Warmcel 100 DIY loft insulation, installation is undertaken by registered specialist installers. Details of registered installers are available from Excel.

The following methods can be used for the installation of Excel insulation products:

Closed Panel Structures
For closed panel structures, including walls, floors, sloping roofs, and any TRADIS structure, Warmcel 500 is installed using the TurboFill dry injection system.

The TurboFill system features a nozzle akin to those used on refuelling rigs seen in Grand Prix Formula 1 pit lanes. This nozzle is docked with the panel by means of pre-drilled access holes, through which the Warmcel 500 is injected. An ingenious pressure sensing system ensures the void is completely filled to the correct density for optimum performance.

Because the insulation process is totally discrete and unintrusive, it can be undertaken at the same time as following trades are working and, therefore, it does not impact on the build programme.

Open Panel Walls
For open panel walls (i.e. walls which are insulated prior to the installation of the internal sheathing), Warmcel 500 may be damp spray applied.

Once sprayed, it is levelled off to the depth of the studs, ensuring the wall is completely filled, with no air pockets or voids, even around pipework, wiring or other obstructions. Moisture naturally dries out through the external sheathing within a few days.

Lofts and Open Floors
For the insulation of lofts and open floors (i.e. floors which are insulated prior to the installation of the floor covering), the insulation is dry blown gently into position to completely fill between and over joists (as appropriate), leaving no air gaps through which warm air can escape.
