Excel Launches SMART Refibreising Systems

Excel Fibre Technology has launched the patented SMART range of pellet refibreising systems for its recently-introduced Viscocel 500 bitumen modifier binder-free fibre pellets. SMART systems are designed to refibreise the pellets prior to direct addition to SMA mixes, resulting in optimum fibre dispersion. The SMART range has been developed to maximise the benefits of the new pellet format, combining ease of handling of the binder-free pellets with the performance associated with Excel’s industry-leading and HAPAS-approved loose fibre bitumen modifier.

Excel’s Viscocel 500 fibre pellets provide improved performance over coated pellets, while requiring a lower addition rate and shorter mixing times for full dispersion.

The SMART range of refibreisers is designed to offer maximum flexibility for SMA manufacturers by tailoring the fibre delivery system to the needs of existing production facilities to create a seamless in-line process.

Based on three ‘primary module’ refibreising options, SMART systems offer a range of standardised pellet hopper configurations to create a dedicated handling and refibreising unit that takes into account throughput rates, storage capabilities, working practices and existing plant equipment and infrastructure.

The SMART system quickly and effectively converts pellets into loose, open fibre which is then added to the SMA mix in one continuous process.

Pre-commissioned and fully factory-tested, SMART systems are designed to be quickly and easily installed onto a pre-prepared site, minimising assembly time and operational disruption.

Viscocel 500 fibre pellets do not rely on a binder to hold the fibre together in pellet form. This delivers cleaner handling along with greater reliability and consistency of dispersion in the SMA mix, since Viscocel 500 pellets do not rely on a binder melting before dispersion can take place. This avoids ‘clumping’ in the mix and/or longer mixing times.
