Warmcel Provides Tendring Council With 'Decent Homes'
19 January 2004
Excel Building Solutions is helping Tendring District Council in Essex, fulfil its aim of achieving the 'Decent Homes' Standard for council properties, through the installation of its high performance Warmcel RF loft insulation in the lofts of 200 council-owned homes throughout the district.
The standard, which requires properties to have 'effective insulation', is being accomplished through the installation of Warmcel RF to a depth of 250mm, delivering a U value of 0.16 W/m2 K.
The installation of Warmcel RF, is being undertaken by specialist Warmcel installer, West Anglia Insulation, into council homes throughout Harwich and Dovercourt, resulting in reduced heating bills for the council's tenants.
This latest phase of Tendring District Council's strategy to upgrade 15 per cent of council homes from 'non-decent' to 'decent' between April 2003 and April 2004, follows the successful installation of Warmcel RF loft insulation into an initial 200 council properties in Bradfield and Clacton last year.
Warmcel RF has been specified by Tendring District Council in consultation with its tenants' panel representatives, due to its combination of excellent thermal performance allied to the insulation's inherent environmental credentials. Manufactured from recycled newspaper, Warmcel has extremely low embodied energy and provides a solution to several environmental issues faced by the council; by recycling waste newspaper, which would otherwise go to landfill, and reducing CO2 emissions through a reduced need for space heating.
BBA-approved, Warmcel RF is extremely resistant to fire, comfortably meeting the fire protection requirement for lofts. It is also free from harmful or toxic substances, including VOCs, CFCs and added formaldehyde, resistant to biological and fungal attack, treated against insects and is unattractive to vermin.
